VIDEO ART (c 2) Responses
The beginning of the article discusses the rapid evolution of artistic development and the sub sequential stumbling of art critics and patrons alike, to keep up with and validate the use of new mediums. The overall, underlying question for me lies in the value of art. If an artwork is not tangible, is it purchasable? Or is the overall concept priceless?
The abilities that technology have permitted to artists is undeniable, but when a performing artist, such as Joan Jonas is given the range-ful palette of video, is a part of her message removed as it is a filmed/recorded event? Does the removal of an audience or the effect of the performance wear on as the video is replayed?
